“The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless.”
Psalm 146:9a (ESV)

Dear Friends & Partners,

Hanging on a cross, a thief found salvation. On a shame-filled walk to a well, an adulterous woman found new life. These familiar stories of the gospel resonate with us because they remind us of our own stories of redemption. Add to this list of redeemed the story of Agatha, a widow who in her darkest of times had a divine appointment with God.

Agatha, a 62-year-old widow, works as a babysitter in El Salvador. One day, she was caught shoplifting, though this was her only run-in with the law. It resulted in an imprisonment for three days. While she waited for the judge, she was assigned an officer. This officer was also a JESUS Film team member! He shared the gospel with her, and she agreed to attend a Preaching Point service with him if she was freed.

The judge did free her! The best part of her testimony happened next:

“She came to the next church service. She came forward, opened her heart to Christ, and made the decision to accept Him. Her iniquities were erased and she repented with her whole heart. She went back to work. Now she faithfully attends services. Hallelujah!”

Many people would call Agatha’s story a chance encounter, but this JESUS Film team member knows it was the providence of God. The Psalmist penned the words “The Lord watches over the sojourners, he upholds the widow and the fatherless,” thousands of years ago. God continues to care for widows in the most extraordinary of ways.

Know when you pray, give, and go, you are a part of helping care for widows around the world.

When you pray, when you give, when you go, you do so much more—you strengthen a weary world!

You are loved.
