"How is the ministry doing?"

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood?
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding."

Isaiah 40:28 (NLT)

Dear Friends & Partners,

I often get asked: “How is the ministry doing?”

And this always reminds me of the time when John the Baptist sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he really was the Messiah.

At the time Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” (Matthew 11:4-6, NIV)

Because Jesus is still working through His followers today, these are the type of signs we should be looking for when we want to know how a ministry is doing.

Last month the 681 active JESUS Film teams working around the world reported that 49,085 more people had come to Christ through their ministry.

Most of our partners understand that the JESUS film remains relevant and effective for Kingdom building, but most don’t have a chance to realize the JESUS film is more effective today than it was 20 years ago when JESUS Film Harvest Partners began funding teams!

During the first five years of the ministry, JESUS Film teams reported 14% of all the people who viewed the film went on to make a decision for Christ. In the last five years, that number has increased to 23%. Isn’t it just like our God to do something as surprising as this?

Proclaiming the Good News is what JESUS Film teams do best. In the process, they witness and report some of the other miracles that manifest when God’s people pray for the needs of others.

I recently heard about Leonel from a team in Argentina: "Leonel was very sick. The doctors’ prognoses were discouraging and his health kept deteriorating. A neighbor invited Leonel and his family to see the JESUS film. They were so worried about their son's health that they allowed us to pray for him afterward. God began to heal him miraculously! They accepted Christ as their personal Savior. Now they serve alongside our team and share the gospel with others."

Stay tuned throughout this year as we continue to share with you about the many incredible things God is doing through His ministry.

Why the Great Commission Still Matters

"Because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come."

— Just As I Am

Dear Friends & Partners,

"Just as I am — without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me..."

Now that you're likely singing this beloved hymn with me, I want to share the story behind these powerful words with you:

"Just As I Am" was written in the 18th century by Charlotte Elliott. Charlotte faced chronic illness, causing her to suffer physically, emotionally, and spiritually. One day, her illness left her feeling particularly useless to the world. Rather than giving in to these feelings,

"She gathered up in her soul the great certainties, not of her emotions, but of her salvation: her Lord, his power, his promise. And taking pen and paper from the table she deliberately set down in writing, for her own comfort, ‘the formula of her faith.'" (Source: Louis Benson, Studies of Familiar Hymns, Second Series, 201-202)

We receive over 600 reports from JESUS Film teams each month, and it's amazing to me to hear the testimonies of a fraction of the many, many people God calls just as they are. Fifty-year-old Enrique in Mexico's story is the perfect example of this:

“I lived a very messy and worldly life, without any direction or hope. I partied, drank a lot of alcohol, was a womanizer and a vagrant. Sometimes I drove when I was drunk.

I would fall asleep at the steering wheel and my young son would sit in my lap and drive because the alcohol was too much for me to stay awake.

My wife was ashamed of me and always worried because we did not have money for food. I spent all I earned on drinks and mariachis. I escaped death many times: in my car and in street brawls. I heard about God and His divine plan, but wanted nothing to do with it.

One day, I fell off a horse and it kicked me in the head. In the hospital, fear overwhelmed me. I believe the Holy Spirit was working in me. I remember seeing moments of my life flash before my eyes, the hair-raising ones, like in a movie.

When I went home, I received a visit from a JESUS Film team leader who was sharing the gospel and inviting people to a street showing of a film. I suggested she show the film in our home instead. I saw the JESUS film and decided to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior.

From that day on, my life has changed, as if I was born all over again. I told my bar buddies how Christ is the solution to all our problems. My family decided we would host a Preaching Point. We meet at our house for worship. I want to do what I can to fulfill the Great Commission.”

God is using the 681 JESUS Film teams serving around the world to share the Good News. Enrique has a dark past, but as Charlotte wrote and we sing today, God will "welcome, pardon, cleanse, receive" all who believe His promises. We don't have to be a certain profession or type of Christian to help redeem the lost and fulfill the Great Commission. We must simply come.

What can you do for the Kingdom as you serve God just as you are today?

You are loved.

How the Lord's Prayer helps us reach the lost

Pulse Banner

June 2018

A missional perspective of The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13):

"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,

For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Dear Friends & Partners,

We pray The Lord's Prayer all the time, but have you ever thought
how these powerful words are foundational to how we reach the lost?

The prayer Jesus taught us begins with acknowledging the holiness of God.

Through the JESUS film and orality tools, teams around the world teach people about our Father, God, and the power of speaking His mighty name.

We then are called to align our will with God's.

The only way we are able to reach each person who makes a decision for Christ is humbly, but boldly going before the throne of God in prayer. We believe the Kingdom of God can be built here and now, from Argentina to Zambia, just as it is in Heaven.

Jesus shows us we can request Him to provide for our needs today

The challenges we face when making disciples of all nations and to the ends of the Earth, from physical to spiritual opposition, are constantly changing and growing. However, God's mercies are new each and every morning. Each of the over 7 billion people living today has a name and story, so we can faithfully seek the next lost person with all He provides us.

This leads us to acknowledge our humanity.

Evangelism isn't about sharing the gospel perfectly. We can extend and show God's grace to others because He extends it to us!

Finally, we affirm God's protection and redeeming plan for the world.

When we pray this prayer, we commit ourselves to be part of God's answer. Jacob, a team member in India, said "Join with us in praising the Lord for all He's done through the ministry. Prayer allows us to continue to spread the Good News to our neighbors."

God truly hears our prayers.

Thank you for the role you are taking in helping more people hear about the sweet name of Jesus. May your prayers be richer, deeper, and more revealing of our greater purpose in His Kingdom.

You are loved.

You are intricately important!

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it."

1 Corinthians 12:27

Dear Friends & Partners,

“The Great Commission is too big for anyone to accomplish alone
& too important not to try to do together.”

—Steve Moore

As you may know, JESUS Film Harvest Partners' vision is to give every person an opportunity to hear about Jesus. The task before us is huge.
The part of JESUS Film teams around the world is to proclaim the Good News, disciple new believers, and raise up leaders to continue The Great Commission in their communities. These new leaders — those who were once lost — are equipped by teams to obediently follow the Lord and seek out other lost souls.

Your part as a Harvest Partner is to encourage, support, and sustain these teams as they bring in the eternal harvest. You are intricately important to the whole process!

In April, a man named Peter received Christ on the first day of the JESUS film showing in his Kenyan village. When Peter saw the miracles performed by Jesus, he stood up, came forward, and told the team, “I want to get saved now.” They gathered around him and prayed with him as he confessed his sins, repented, and asked Jesus to come into his heart.

The second day, Peter came back to the showing and said he wanted to know more about Jesus. On the third day, the team did discipleship follow-up and Peter showed interest in studying the Word even more!

Peter’s willingness to hear and accept the Lord’s calling will be a blessing to those around him who still need to hear the incredible news of the gospel.

Whether you are in East Africa or North America, what following the Great Commission looks like is often just as diverse as the people of God’s church!

By diligently committing ourselves to even the smallest tasks at our places of home and work, by being salt and light to others, we can partner with the global Church. Alone, we can do little. Together, we can go into each corner of every country, touching the lives of those who have never heard the name of Jesus.

We have a huge and important task ahead of us. Let's accomplish it together.

What part will you play?

You are loved.

The Power of Stories

Pulse Banner
March 2018

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you
so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last."

John 15:16a

Dear Friends & Partners,

Incredible discipleship through storytelling is changing lives across West Africa. One lady from southern Togo heard storytellers after the JESUS film was shown in her village. She was so intrigued when her brother began to tell stories about the Bible in their home.

She said to her brother, “Can a person learn the stories of the Bible without actually reading the Bible?” Her brother said “yes!” Each night he told a different story in their home in their own language, and everyone in the house had a chance to share what the story meant to them. In just a matter of a week, she received Christ as her personal Savior and fell in love with the stories from the Bible.

She soon learned 6 stories and how to tell them herself. She began sharing these stories twice a week in her village with her neighbors. Only one month after she gave her life to Christ, she found her calling to reach out to others and win them to Christ. After telling her stories, she would pray for people and many gave their lives to Christ.

Soon it was time to baptize all those who had given their lives to Christ in the past month. She was so excited because on the same day that she was baptized, many of her neighbors and friends were baptized together.

The leaders recognized her role in her neighbors' story of salvation so one by one as they entered the water, she laid her hands on them and prayed for them...and then they were baptized!

Oh, what joy comes to those who find salvation in the life-transforming truths of the scriptures!

Will you pray for this lady and so many others like her, who are being empowered by hearing the Word of God on audio Bibles and learning the stories to tell others about Jesus?
